【①】

Passage ①
[Notice] About how to put out recyclable waste
At the moment, the bin for recyclable waste is broken and the lid will not open. A new bin is due to arrive on March 1. Until then, please put recyclable waste beside the parking area at the back of the building. The collection day is the same as before: Wednesday, by 8:00 a.m.
For burnable rubbish, please use the usual place on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Once the new bin arrives, please open and close the lid carefully.

Passage ②
When I shop on the internet, I can often buy things more cheaply than at a shop near my home. Even with the shipping fee, the same item is sometimes a few hundred yen cheaper. It is also convenient, because I do not have to carry heavy things home. That is why I buy books, detergent and similar items online.
However, I have made it a rule to buy vegetables and fish at the shops near my home. They lose on price, but I can pick the good ones that day, and I can ask the shop staff how to cook them. Some things are better when they are cheap, and some things I want to choose myself. These days I use both, each in its own way.
The correct answer is 1. The notice says a new bin will arrive on March 1 and that until then recyclables go beside the parking area. The question is about February, so the new bin is not there yet. Option 2 misreads March 1 as a day to wait for; option 3 uses the burnable-rubbish days; option 4 uses the request about the lid, which only applies after the new bin arrives.
The correct answer is 2. Paragraph 1 admits that online shopping is cheap and convenient. Paragraph 2 concedes that local shops lose on price, gives the writer’s reasons for buying fresh food there, and ends by saying the writer uses both. Option 1 moves a merit of online shopping (“I do not have to carry heavy things”) over to the local shop as “the staff carry them for me”. Option 3 reverses the meaning of “they lose on price”. Option 4 is right in its first half but contradicts the line about still being cheaper even with the shipping fee.
