Question: Rin plans to start attending a Japanese class next month. From Monday to Friday she works at a factory in the daytime, so on weekdays she only has time at night. She is free on weekends. Rin wants to become able to speak better. Also, the most she can pay for the class is 2,000 yen a month. Which class do you think Rin will choose?
Notice — Midori International Exchange Center, Japanese class guide:
A. Grammar class: Tue 19:00–20:30, mainly grammar / ¥1,500 a month
B. Conversation class (weekend): Sat 10:00–11:30 / ¥1,800 a month
C. Conversation class (night): Fri 19:00–20:30 / ¥2,500 a month
D. Conversation class (daytime): Tue & Fri 10:00–11:30 / ¥2,000 a month.
* Visiting a class is free.
Answer: 2 (Conversation class — weekend). Only B matches all three conditions: her free time, conversation practice, and a price within her ¥2,000 budget.

リンさんの条件は 「①平日の夜か週末」「②上手く話せるようになりたい（＝会話の練習）」「③月2,000円まで」 の3つです。「上手く話せるようになりたい」→ 会話クラス、と言いかえて考えるのがポイントです。この3つをすべて満たすのはBだけです。
Rin’s conditions are: (1) weekday nights or weekends, (2) wanting to speak better = conversation practice, and (3) up to ¥2,000 a month. The key is to rephrase “wants to speak better” as “conversation class.” Only Plan B satisfies all three.
- A：火曜の夜で時間も料金も◯。でも内容が「文法」で、会話の練習ができない。
Time and price are fine, but it’s a grammar class — not conversation. - B：土曜の会話クラス。週末で時間が合い、料金も1,800円で予算（2,000円まで）内。
Saturday conversation class — the time fits, and ¥1,800 is within her ¥2,000 budget. - C：金曜の夜の会話クラスで時間は◯。でも月2,500円で、予算の2,000円をオーバー。
The time works, but ¥2,500 is over her ¥2,000 budget. - D：会話クラスで料金も2,000円と予算内。でも火曜・金曜の昼で、リンさんは昼は工場で働いているので通えない。
Conversation, and ¥2,000 is within budget — but it’s Tue/Fri daytime, and she’s at work then.
