Passage ①
Last month I finally got a job. Half a year had passed since I started job hunting.
At first I could not speak well in interviews. I was turned down again and again and lost my confidence. So I went to my university’s career centre for advice, and a member of staff said, “Why not talk about your failures as well?”
When I did that, interviewers started asking me, “And how did that change you?” In other words, I think that what reaches the other person is not your success stories, but what you learned from your failures.
Passage ②
[Company email] Subject: Notice about the health checkup
On Thursday, October 15, we will hold the health checkup in the meeting room on the second floor. Please come by 10:00.
On the morning of that day, please come in to work without eating. Water and tea are fine. If you take medicine every day, please take it as usual before you come.
If a business trip or a day off means you cannot have the checkup that day, please tell Yamada by October 13. You will have it later at a hospital near you.

The correct answer is 3. The final sentence gives the conclusion: what reaches the other person is not success stories but what you learned from failure, and option 3 restates this. Option 1 uses background information; option 2 reverses the cause and effect, since interviewers responded better after the writer began talking about failures; option 4 treats the career centre, which was only the trigger, as the main point.
The correct answer is 1. The email sets out three conditions: come to work without eating, water and tea are fine, and people who take daily medicine should take it as usual before coming. Sari takes medicine every morning, so she takes it with water and then goes in. Option 2 misses the line about medicine; option 3 reverses the timing; option 4 applies the instruction to contact Yamada, which is only for people who cannot attend because of a business trip or a day off.
