JLPT N2 文法クイズ:条件・仮定 (2/4)
Condition
Five more questions on conditions. The four choices in each question often look alike, so the words right before the blank are not always enough. Look at how the second half of the sentence connects to the first, and say the whole sentence to yourself before you choose. Every question gives you the answer, the connection rule, and native audio at two speeds.

Q1. 同じ型の中古カメラでも…
〜次第で(は) shidai de (wa)
📌 名詞/〜か(どうか) + 次第で(は) ※ 文の終わりでは「名詞 + 次第だ」の形になる。
💡 「〜によって、結果が決まる」。前の名詞が、後ろのことを決めるいちばんの条件だと言う。「次第では」の形にすると、起こるかもしれない結果の一つを言う。
Depending on ~. The noun before it is the key factor that decides the result. In the form 次第では, it points to one possible result.
① 同じ型の中古カメラでも、前の持ち主の扱い方次第で、買い取り価格は大きく変わってくる。
Even with the same model of used camera, the trade-in price can vary a lot depending on how the previous owner handled it.
② 今月の売り上げ次第では、新しい店を出す計画を見直すことになるかもしれません。
Depending on this month’s sales, we may have to rethink our plan to open a new store.
③ 参加するかどうかは、当日の体調次第で決めてかまいません。
You can decide whether to take part depending on how you feel on the day.
次第で=それで結果が決まる(テストの点数次第で、入るクラスが決まる)/によっては=いろいろある中の、ある場合には(店によっては、カードが使えないこともある)。 「天気次第では中止」「天気によっては中止」のように、両方言える文も多いです。「一部の〜では」の意味なら、によっては だけです。
次第で means the noun decides the result. によっては means “in some cases.” Many sentences work with either, but for “in some ~” (some shops, some people), only によっては works.
Q2. この体操は、寝る前に3分…
〜さえ〜ば sae ~ ba
📌 動詞ます形の語幹 + さえ + すれば/名詞 + さえ + 〜ば ※ 動詞て形 + さえ + いれば の形もある。助詞の を・が は、さえ に変わる(薬を飲む → 薬さえ飲めば)。
💡 「その条件一つが満たされれば、ほかは問題にならない」と、一つにしぼって強調する。過去のことに使うと、「あのとき〜していれば」という後悔になる。
As long as ~ / all it takes is ~. Once that one condition is met, nothing else matters. About the past, it shows regret: “if only I had ~.”
① この体操は、寝る前に3分やりさえすれば、次の日の肩の軽さが全然違うよ。
Just do this exercise for three minutes before bed, and your shoulders will feel so much lighter the next day.
② そんなに持っていかなくていいよ。パスポートとスマホさえあれば、あとは向こうで買えるから。
You don’t need to take that much. As long as you’ve got your passport and phone, you can buy anything else once you’re there.
③ 祖父は、庭の手入れをしてさえいれば、一日中ご機嫌だ。
As long as he’s working in his garden, my grandfather is in a good mood all day.
さえ〜ば=それさえあれば、うまくいく(地図さえあれば、一人で行ける)/ないことには=それがなければ、何も進まない(地図がないことには、一人では行けない)。 どちらも「その条件が大事だ」と言いますが、さえ〜ば の後ろは肯定の文、ないことには の後ろは否定的な文になります。
Both say that one condition matters. After さえ〜ば comes a good result (“then it’ll be fine”). After ないことには comes a negative one (“nothing can happen”).
Q3. 彼は真の教育者だ。生徒に…
〜かぎり(は) kagiri (wa)
📌 動詞辞書形・ている形/い形容詞い/な形容詞な/名詞である + かぎり(は) ※ 「私が知っているかぎり」のように、「〜の範囲では」の意味でも使う。
💡 「〜という状態が続いている間は、ずっと〜だ」。後ろには、話し手の決意や、「〜なければならない」などの義務、ずっと変わらないことが来る。
As long as ~. While one situation continues, something else stays the same. What follows is often a decision or a duty.
① 彼は真の教育者だ。生徒に必要とされるかぎり、きっと教え続けるだろう。
He is a true educator. As long as his students need him, he will surely keep teaching.
② 人が言葉を使うかぎり、誤解が完全になくなることはない。
Misunderstandings will never disappear completely while people communicate with words.
③ 私が知っているかぎり、この喫茶店のコーヒーの値段は、20年間一度も変わっていない。
As far as I know, the price of coffee at this café hasn’t changed once in 20 years.
かぎり=その状態が続いている間は(電池が残っているかぎり、この時計は止まらない)/ないかぎり=〜しなければ、今のまま(電池を替えないかぎり、この時計は動かない)。 「ない」が1つ入るだけで、意味が大きく変わります。かぎり は「〜している間は」、ないかぎり は「〜しなければ」です。
Adding one ない changes the meaning. かぎり means “as long as (something continues),” and ないかぎり means “unless.”
Q4. 子どもの部屋は、親がいくら…
〜たところで ta tokoro de
📌 動詞た形 + ところで ※ 「いくら」「どんなに」「今さら」とよく一緒に使う。
💡 「〜しても、期待する結果にはならない」。やってもむだだ、大したことにはならない、という話し手の判断を表す。
Even if ~, it won’t help. The speaker judges that the action won’t bring the hoped-for result, or won’t make much difference.

No matter how much parents nag, a child’s room will soon be messy again if the child doesn’t want to keep it tidy.
② 面接はもう終わったんだから、今さら悩んだところで仕方がないよ。
The interview is already over, so there’s no point worrying about it now.
③ 高いブランドの服を着たところで、中身が変わるわけではない。
Wearing expensive designer clothes won’t change who you are inside.
たところで=〜しても、むだだ(今さら電話したところで、もう誰もいないだろう)/たところ=〜してみたら、こうなった(電話してみたところ、すぐにつながった)。 「で」があるかないかで、意味がまったく変わります。実際に起きた結果を言うときは、たところ です。
One letter makes a big difference. たところで means “it’s no use.” たところ reports what actually happened: “I tried it, and this is what happened.”
Q5. たとえ準備に3年…
〜としても to shite mo
📌 普通形 + としても ※ な形容詞・名詞は「〜だとしても」。
💡 「もし〜でも」と仮定して、それでも後ろのことは変わらない、と言う。「たとえ」「仮に」と一緒によく使う。
Even if ~ / even supposing ~. Imagines a situation and says that even then, the result or the speaker’s view stays the same. Often used with たとえ or 仮に.

I don’t think I’d quit my job, even if I won the lottery.
③ もし明日が人生最後の日だとしても、私はいつもどおり朝ごはんを作るだろう。
Even if tomorrow were the last day of my life, I would probably make breakfast as usual.
としても=もしそうでも(たとえ誰にも読まれないとしても、この小説は最後まで書きたい)/といっても=本当にそうだが、大したことはない(料理ができるといっても、カレーぐらいだ)。 形が似ています。としても は「もしも」の話で、「たとえ」と一緒に使えます。といっても は、本当のことを言ってから、それを小さく言い直すときに使います。
They look alike. としても is about imagined situations and goes well with たとえ. といっても admits something true and then plays it down: “I can cook, but only curry.”
