I want to write about ‘習う’, ‘勉強する’, and ‘学ぶ’ today.
実は、これが今まで日本人学習者から一番よく質問された言葉かもしれません。次に聞かれるのが多いのは「私」「僕」「俺」の違い。これはいずれまた。
勉強する：benkyosuru
私の個人的なイメージですが、机に向かって教科書や参考書、タブレットなどで物理的に学んでいるそのものを指していると感じます。
I feel like this word specifically describes the act of sitting at your desk and hitting the books—using things like textbooks, reference guides, or tablets to physically get your studying done.
例文：どうやって日本語を勉強していますか？教科書を使って勉強しています。
How are you studying Japanese? I’m mostly just using textbooks right now.
習う narau
先生や詳しい人に何かを教えてもらうことです。
To be taught a skill by someone else.
例：今ギターを習っています。これは、この人が誰かにギターを教えてもらっていることを意味しています。
I’m taking guitar lessons right now. This means I’m being taught by a teacher.
学ぶ manabu
深い言葉です。「英語を学んでいます。」と聞いたら、その文化や考え方などを学んでいるような感じ。
manabu ：Deep Learning and Experience. When I hear “ego wo manannde imasu”, I feel like the person learn about the coulture, way to think, and so on.
例：英語を学びたくて、アメリカへ留学しようと思っています
I want to learn English, so I’m thinking of studying abroad in the United States.
